I could see myself or any other desi dude and I have seen people in this situation. Its painful. Myself, I learnt my lesson during the 2000 - 2002 recession and spent all these years preparing for something like this. It was a difficult but I had to do it. I kind of knew that this would happen every 10 years. This time it did not take it 10 yrs.
By the way, I liked your narration of the incident. I wish I could do it.
We have very skilled people here and here is my suggestion. Why don't we make a documentary on these stories and the problems we face due to immigration. It will be much better way of putting our concerns before the people and I am sure even the immigration hardliners will sympathize with us if they hear us out and what we are going thru even after being there for 7-10 years paying taxes and doing our due diligence.

Assuming everyone stays the course, under these timelines
1. At least 5% of applicants will be sponsored by their American children.
2. Another 5% will have their first million and move to the investor's category.
The timelines would be a maximum of 20 years or so, at which point people would be sponsored by their children.
Ok. So thats a 10 percent decrease in accumulation rate.
Lets add another 10 percent decrease to that. These will be 10 percent that commit suicide, suffer a lay-off, or just pack up and go back.
So, the accumulation rate decreases to 15600, the initial backlogs from 2001, and 2002 also decreased to 80 percent their currently assumed values. Following are the results. Good news. Wait time decreases. Bad news, you still have to send your dependents back as we are not counting them.
The timelines are now less than 20 years.
For India. (ROW wait times are less than 5-10 years anyway according to this model)

A reasonable model should show that for Indians, the situation is hopeless. For others, the situation is painful. The current model shows that. I just want to give this some time, and get the best feedback and incorporate that in it.
Maybe, then I will be able to convince people (especially from India) to get active, and stop being ignoramuses asking innocently 'Oh! Is the situation really that bad?'
If anyone has any ideas on modelling EB-2 vs EB-3 for India, that would also be helpful. Given some data, simple math should give us good enough estimates.

I did some googling for Boston - Looks like there is a single postoffice in whole of New england ( me,nh,vt,ma,ct,ri) which is open 24 hrs and accepts mail 24 hrs... Here is the address...

Call USCIS, there number should be listed on the receipt or online.
Ask them to open an SR as your cases has passed the normal processing time.

I agree with you, this is a right time to go for visa recapture. We don't have to mention anywhere for H1B. This will be just for visa recapture.

If you remember that I had pledged $1000 in last 20$ campaign and you guys could only shell out $500 out of me...which means that I still have a block of $500 which was not spent for IV in the past. Here is my next pledge :

When I was working in Kuwait, me and every one carry Civil ID, all the time in the wallet. If some one don't have, the police will take him to the station and allow to call his sponser to bring the documents. If the sponser is out of station, any friend can bring the documents. Color of civil ID is diffrent for Kuwaiti's and others. So police didn't question any Kuwaitis. Other nationals also into two catagories, one for the general employees, and the other is domestic visa holders. The domestic visa holders ID is diffrent color, if the police caught them any time other than friday, they will go to jail and deported. They have right to be on the road only on friday. Other days of the week, it is banned. Only allow to live in the sponsers house. I heard, in saudi, muslims have green color ID,s to distiguish between other religious members.
Any way USA is not discriminate between religion, or nationalities. If it is law, we need to obey. Green card can carry with credit card, driver license. I think checking is only on boders. They may checking any one jumping from Mexico or Canada. It is for security purpose. Not to harass.

How abt showing the US govt - what is in it for them?
If they recapture x number of visas and y % buys a house soon after, it is a win-win situation. They provide solid ground under the feet of LEGALs and the benefactors build on top of that ground.
A key item will be to get a petition from a number of IVeans pledging to buy a house if they get a green card. If that number turns out high, this will be a good blil-board for our cause.

Cultural barriers are not so insurmountable in the US as those in the EU.
Even with the Blue Card can one work towards the naturalization process in order to become a citizen? In US you can surely do that after 5-6 years I guess.
US gives citizenship by birth to our children if they are born on US soil, EU countries do not do that. Switzerland goes to the extent of invloving local communities before deciding an applicant's request. Please refer to http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6992670.stm
